What we offer

Our Financial Modelling & Controlling services

Whether your need is an executive model supporting strategic decision making or a detailed controlling system to track business results, our objective is the same: accurate, transparent numbers that support sound management decisions.

Sound business decisions require an understanding of their financial consequences. We use financial models to quantify the impact of strategic and operational choices.
  • Financial models for strategic and operational decisionsWe build tailored financial models that quantify the expected financial impact of a decision, investment or strategy. Whether for a new investment, market entry or a comprehensive business plan, the model provides a transparent, reliable basis for decision-making.
  • Scenario and sensitivity analysesWe test how outcomes change under different assumptions and identify the variables to which returns are most sensitive. This allows decisions to be based on a realistic range of outcomes and their associated risks rather than on a single point estimate.
  • Financial analysis of key value driversWe identify the factors that most strongly influence the value of the company or project and quantify their impact. This helps focus management attention and resources where they can create the most value.
What cannot be measured is difficult to manage — we build controlling and reporting systems that provide a detailed, regular view of business performance.
  • Design and development of controlling and reporting systemsWe design new systems or enhance existing ones to give management a clear, up-to-date view of business performance based on reliable data. Each solution is tailored to the company's specific needs rather than built around a standard template.
  • KPI definition and monitoringTogether with management, we define the metrics that genuinely matter for running the business and establish regular monitoring. This keeps attention focused on what matters most.
  • Management and shareholder reportingAs an ongoing service, we provide tailored reporting for management and shareholders — concise, decision-focused and at the right level of detail. The objective is to deliver meaningful insight, not simply more data.
The hardest decisions are rarely clear-cut — we use financial analysis to make alternatives transparent and comparable.
  • Decision-support analysis in complex business situationsBefore a major investment, transformation or shareholder decision, we prepare the analysis needed to support it. We structure the relevant considerations, quantify the consequences and make clear which factors drive the outcome.
  • Financial comparison of strategic alternativesWhere several options are available, we compare them financially: expected returns, required investment and key risks. This allows decisions to be made based on comparable numbers rather than intuition alone.
  • Transparent support for management and shareholder decisionsWe prepare decision materials that show the logic behind the recommendation in a clear, traceable way. This is particularly valuable where the decision must also be explained to multiple shareholders, decision-makers or financiers.

Why Mercurio

Four reasons that set our financial work apart.

As investors and business leaders, we also base our own decisions on financial models and controlling data. That is why we do not build spreadsheets for their own sake, but tools that genuinely support decisions — the same tools we use ourselves.
Our leaders gained financial modelling experience at leading firms including McKinsey & Company, Concorde MB Partners and MET Group, bringing the same methodological rigour to financial modelling and controlling in Mercurio. We therefore deliver quality comparable to that of major advisory firms — with strong value for money.
A controlling or reporting system only creates value if it works in day-to-day operations. That is why we do not just design it but also build and implement it — from KPI definition through to a fully functioning reporting setup — so it genuinely supports management decisions.
We have built or reviewed financial models for several hundred MWs of renewable-energy and energy-storage investments — in several cases as independent model auditors ahead of bank financing for Hungarian financial institutions and investors. We have a deep understanding of both the financing and operating logic of energy projects.

Frequently asked questions

Accounting records the past in accordance with statutory requirements; controlling focuses on the future and supports decision-making. Accounting shows what happened, while controlling helps explain why it happened — and what should be done next. The two complement each other, while our focus is on controlling and decision support.

Controlling is a question of complexity, not size. If a bank balance is no longer enough to support decisions, or if several products, projects or companies need to be viewed together, a proper system can pay for itself. We help identify the right level of sophistication without overcomplicating it.

A model is only as reliable as its assumptions and the transparency of its logic. That is why we do not build “black boxes”: our models are traceable and robust, with key assumptions made explicit and testable. Our models have also been used in financing processes involving Hungarian financial institutions.

Yes. We are often engaged to review existing financial models (model audits) or controlling systems — whether ahead of a financing process or transaction, or simply to give management greater confidence in the underlying numbers.

Financial modelling and controlling often underpin our other services as well. A model built for a transaction, financing process or strategic decision draws on the same underlying expertise. For many clients, this service connects the other advisory areas.
