Emerging markets require more than desktop research. They require local insight.
As renewable investment activity expands across South-East Europe, we increasingly see investors looking beyond the more established CEE markets.
Recently, we completed a commercial due diligence and utilisation study for a near-RTB utility-scale PV project in Albania, supporting the client's investment decision with a buyer-side commercial assessment and financial validation.
One takeaway from the project stood out.
In emerging power markets, the key challenge is often not the lack of information – it is understanding which information can actually be relied upon.
Public regulations, market reports and statistics provide only part of the picture. Commercial reality is often shaped by market practices, financing conditions, balancing arrangements and ongoing regulatory developments that can only be understood through discussions with local market participants.
That is why our work combined detailed market research with an extensive programme of interviews involving traders, aggregators, consultants, financing institutions and other local stakeholders to validate assumptions before incorporating them into the commercial assessment.
We are proud that today our projects extend well beyond Central Europe. Alongside our work in Hungary, Romania and Italy, we are increasingly supporting investors across the Western Balkans, leveraging a growing regional network of local experts and market participants to provide commercially grounded advice rather than purely theoretical analysis.
At Mercurio Advisory, we believe that successful cross-border renewable investments are built on more than data – they are built on local understanding.
